Whew – the Fourth of July is over here in America but people are still celebrating! People in my town are still setting off fireworks steadily throughout the day and it doesn’t sound like they will be stopping soon. In fact, several times today people set off fireworks that literally sounded like a bomb was detonated. Crazy!
I had a lovely Fourth of July with my family. I drove down to my hometown to join my Mom and sisters for a cookout. I don’t get to see my family that often even though I only live an hour away… a mixture of laziness and lack of time on both sides. I was almost going to skip the cookout this year but decided against it because I’ll be traveling long-term soon. My laziness was reaching a new level when I was considering skipping! I know my poor Mom will miss me when I’m gone. I should take more time to see her.
I decided to go down a different path this Fourth of July and made a savory dish for the cookout instead of a dessert! I think my family may have been a tad disappointed that I didn’t bring a delicious dessert like I do for most get-togethers, but it was nice to step outside of the box! I’m definitely more comfortable with baking than cooking savory dishes. I grabbed a few of my friends and we assembled really yummy chicken kabobs to put on the grill.
My Mom really went all out this year and bought a ton of fireworks. I’m not even talking about the cheap kind, but the legit ones that are awesome. We all had a blast lighting them and running away in fear. One of the fireworks actually malfunctioned and went straight towards everyone which gave us a scare. Thankfully no one was hurt. It’s not the Fourth of July without at least one firework scare, right? 😉
I even got to experiment with my camera and did a really cute heart with sparklers with my husband by manipulating the shutter speed. We each had a sparkler and created one side of a heart to make a full heart in the picture. It turned out super cute! I’ve had my camera for about a year now, but I’m ashamed to say that I haven’t taken much time to learn anything past the basics about how to use it. It’s a really great camera, and I know it has so much potential. I need to kick my butt into gear!
I hope everyone had a great day, whether you were celebrating or not.
