Today is the 4th of July here in America, the day we gained our independence. This year’s celebration is extra special because my husband finally gained his citizenship! Hooray! There was a really lovely ceremony outside with refreshments and COOKIES! Yum. I skipped my breakfast in the morning so I was starving and may or may not have eaten my weight in cookies out of hunger. Hey, the ceremony was four hours long ok? 😛
The ceremony was really sweet. Since this ceremony was special because of independence day, they pitched a tent outside of the historic home of Benjamin Harrison instead of the usual location. They had lined up all of the young children with American flags that they handed to each new citizen as they were called. They shook their hand and congratulated them on their new status, and it was super cute.
I’m so glad to have everything done, now we can go on with our lives without dealing with government stuff. We’ll be traveling soon and we can’t wait! We haven’t really had the chance to travel with work and school and the immigration process, so we figured it’s time to treat ourselves to an overseas trip. We’re still thinking of where we want to go…
Tomorrow I’m planning to meet up with friends and grill a lot of yummy things. You can’t celebrate the 4th of July without a cookout can you? I’m guessing it will be a food coma kind of day. I still need to figure out what baked good I want to bring. I haven’t made a pie in awhile, perhaps today is the day! Pie is also synonymous with this holiday, at least in my household. Yummy!
Happy 4th of July to my American friends! And just happy day to everyone in general.
Q: What are your plans for the day? Are you celebrating this 4th of July?
