Have you met my cat Iskander? You might have, if you are following me on Instagram. 😉
I kinda sorta love him. A lot. He’s a Scottish Fold, which means he has a genetic trait that causes his ears to adorably fold forwards. Which basically means he is too freaking cute ALL. THE. TIME. I can’t be mad at him. Every time I see him I feel the urge to squeeze hug him. In fact, I probably tell him at least 10 times a day that he is so cute. As if cats aren’t arrogant enough haha… my cat would definitely be full of himself! 😀
I did a ton of research before getting Iskander. I had a cat when I was younger, but he was a huge sour puss! I wanted to make sure the odds were tilted in my favor this time. Scottish Folds are known for their positive personality and boy… they aren’t lying! Iskander is the most playful, easy-going cat that I’ve ever met. Everyone who meets him can’t believe how friendly and playful he is even with strangers! I bought him as a kitten in Korea and can you believe it… they gave me a huge discount because they said he was ugly. UGLY. Is that not insane? I mean… look at that face.
I brought him back to the United States from Seoul and I have to say… best investment ever. He brings me so much happiness every day! Now that I’m adopting a more healthy lifestyle for myself, I can’t help but think of him too. Scottish Folds are prone to getting a little fat due to laziness (Wait a minute… this sounds familiar haha!) so I have to really make sure to play with him every day and keep him running around. Even if he bats at my yoga strap while still laying down… I’ll take what I can get haha! He loves to go outside with me on the back porch so we relax while I do yoga and take a few laps running after whatever toy he’s obsessed with at the moment. My yoga strap always entices him to attack haha!
I’m guilty of just buying any cat food at the store but now that Iskander is no longer a kitten, I’m paying more attention to what I feed him. I want him to stay around as long as possible! I’m lucky that he isn’t picky about what he eats. Lately, he has been eating Purina® Beyond® grain fee options that I found at Meijer. They have a pretty big natural food section for pets that was really easy to find in the pet food section. The Purina® Beyond® line has no corn, no wheat and no soy. He liked both the chicken and salmon flavors right away, which was great! He actually got into one of the bags when I wasn’t looking and helped himself to some extra food. Sneaky! I want to say I’m surprised, but I’m not. 😀 He’s just like Momma, when he’s hungry he’s ready to eat ASAP!
My fitness goals are chugging along and I gotta say the best thing I’ve done so far is start taking yoga. I’m so lucky that I have wonderful teachers at NIFS in Indianapolis who really bring a passion for what they do. I get stressed so easily and am not flexible AT ALL so I wasn’t sure if yoga would be a good fit for me but boy was I wrong! Every time, without fail, I almost fall asleep during the last five minutes of class while we rest on the floor. I’m definitely testing my flexibility every day but it feels good! I’m not dripping in sweat but my mind and my body feel so great… finally, a healthy addiction!
Ah… the cat selfie struggle. But I love him! I can’t help but give him a little hug squeeze every once in awhile no matter how much he hates it. Hopefully we’ll both stay healthy and live a long, happy life together. 🙂
Q: I shared a little bit about my cat and some of our health/fitness goals… what about you? How do you keep your pets healthy?
