Happy post-Thanksgiving! I had a crazy day of cooking, cooking and more cooking. I love to cook and my family has always been about busting out all of our culinary moves to make the best spread of food you’ve ever seen! You won’t find any box mix recipes on this day. Almost everything is homemade, and I wouldn’t have it any other way!
This year I upped my game and made a few pies in addition to my other food duties this year. I already had a day full of turkey, mashed potatoes, cheese ball, and sweet potato making but I just felt the urge to make a dessert this year too!
What better pie to make than a sugar cream pie? This pie is a Hoosier tradition and it is so, so good. Indiana pride! I cut some corners here by using a store bought pie crust due to my workload. The filling was so easy to make that this was done very quickly!
As expected, this was the total star of the night! My sister was a little hesitant because she hasn’t had great experiences with other sugar cream pies but even she gave this her seal of approval! There is a famous Indiana pie brand that makes this pie, but she didn’t really love it. I can’t eat it because they use lard in their pie crust. The Muslim struggle!
It has a creamy filling that is bursting with vanilla flavor. To make it even better there is a crunchy layer of cinnamon sugar on top. This is definitely a pie for someone with a sweet tooth. My husband prefers this pie without the sugar top because the filling is plenty sweet on it’s own. I love it just as it is though!
I had a lovely Thanksgiving with my family and I’m thankful that no political talk ruined the day. Thanksgiving always gets me hyped up!
I guess nothing gets me more motivated than food haha. Can you relate? Well, food and the new Gilmore Girls series. Which I will promptly be watching after posting this recipe post. I promised myself I wouldn’t watch it until I got some work done! It obviously worked, because here we are. 🙂
