Recently, I have really started trying to buy as much organic food as possible. After hearing so much bad press about pesticides and all kinds of weird stuff going into our food, I had to start making the switch. I also am buying meat from organic, grass fed farms and having it slaughtered in a more humane fashion (halal). I can really tell the benefits in my health, especially from the beef! Can you imagine, out of 290 calories, 200 of the calories in most store-bought ground beef are fat! That is a little too gross for me.
Eggs were one of the first items that I tried to replace. I wanted eggs from free range chickens that weren’t fed a corn based diet.
Bloomington, IN has a lot of farms really close to town. So it wasn’t too hard to find one with eggs. We do have Bloomingfoods, an organic store that sells local produce, meat and cheese, but they are a little pricy. A dozen eggs are $5!
My friend told me about a farm right here in Bloomington that she gets her eggs from for $2/dozen. That is a really good price! I tried an egg at her house and it was delicious. The best part of it all, was that the owner delivers. He does “egg drops” every so often where he comes into town and delivers eggs to a large amount of people.
I was sold! I would definitely recommend them. The owner is really nice and has an unbeatable price. I think he is going to get a lot of business from me in the future. 🙂
He sells baby chickens, turkeys, you name it! He even has quail eggs for $3/dozen. I think around Thanksgiving I’m definitely getting a turkey. His prices are very cheap compared to others.
I’m very satisfied. 🙂
