Who can visit Seoul without heading up Namsan mountain to check out Namsan Tower? Especially if you are a couple… it’s not to be missed. Every year hoards of couples come up and make a promise of love. The love locks are so out of control now that it’s hard to find a spot to put yours! In fact, my lock from last year was so buried under other locks that there was no way to even see it. Bummer!
It gets pretty crowded here so I would recommend going in the morning on a weekday when most people are at work or school. At night on the weekends is the worst! There are so many people and if you want to take pictures… forget about it. So many people will be doing the same and it will take forever!
To keep it interesting, they change up some things outside. This year they had metal trees that people hung their locks on… kind of magical with the lights and colorful locks! They even had a booth set up where you can kiss your significant other and they would donate to charity. Super cute! There is a lot of love tourism at Namsan Tower, so if you are enjoying a romantic day with your loved one there are lots of options for you! I thought the little tiles with love notes on them were super cute!
I had a great time at Namsan Tower! If you decide to go up to enjoy the views, you can send a postcard to a loved one from Seoul’s highest post office. The locks are all in the public area outside and are free to browse; you can get some spectacular views of Seoul from there too!
How to get there:
1. There are three shuttle buses that run exclusively to Namsan Tower. Shuttle bus 02, 03, and 05 will all get you there with stops in most major tourist areas. This is your cheapest option, riding the shuttle bus will only cost 850 won.
2. A cable car is available. Take the subway to Myeongdong Station (Blue Line 4) and go out of exit 3. Walk for around 10 minutes alongside the street on the right side of Pacific Hotel. You will find the cable car here. Fee is between 6,000 and 8,000 won. I wouldn’t recommend this way because it is kind of easy to get lost.
