I know I don’t post a lot of skincare related posts on my blog much anymore, but skin care has always been important to me and still is. I’ll admit, going into this pregnancy my expectations for what my skin would do were high. I mean, who hasn’t heard of the pregnancy glow? I assumed my skin would be the same and my skin, hair and nails would just magically be amazing all of the time. Unfortunately for me, my skin did not get the memo.
As someone who has been religiously taking care of my skin for years, I wasn’t totally prepared for the changes that would happen. My skin tone became uneven, my skin type became very oily and I even got the occasional acne. Nothing like going back to my teenage years! I honestly spent some time mourning the whole pregnancy glow thing for awhile, it seemed so unfair! The more I learn about pregnancy the more I see that there is literally nothing guaranteed. Every woman is so different and the weird things our bodies do while growing another human is crazy!
I was horrified to say the least, and my normal skin care routine just wasn’t meeting my skin’s needs. After some trial and error, my skin has improved a lot and although it’s not perfect, it is much better than before!
I thought I’d share some of my go-to products that have really helped me improve my skin throughout my pregnancy. I’m in the home stretch now and I’ve finally cracked the code for my own skin problems. Figuring out what works for your skin can be time consuming but so worth it once you start seeing consistent results! I’m sure everything will change once Hannah comes along, but for now this has been working really well for me.
Green Tea & Enzyme Powder Wash BYWISHTREND
My skin texture seemed to turn terrible overnight. I’ve only been using this exfoliating cleanser with green tea for a few weeks but WOW. I really wish I would have started using this sooner. It’s gentle so it doesn’t dry out my skin at all and everything is so smooth afterwards. It’s a powder so it is really convenient and lightweight for travel. Even after pregnancy this one is a keeper!
Sebamed Clear Face Antibacterial Cleansing Foam
Acne. Man oh man was I not happy to deal with this again. I bought this while I was in Egypt over the summer for my husband but ended up taking it for myself! I like it because it sanitizes my face really well. You have to leave it on for five minutes but it has really helped the random acne breakouts I kept having.
KLAIRS Supple Preparation Facial Toner Unscented
I’ve used this toner before years ago and it is just as good now in it’s unscented version. I prefer unscented when I can get my hands on it. I won’t lie, the smell of this one can definitely be off-putting but I love the slightly thick, gel texture that instantly absorbs into my skin. No cotton pad needed!
GREEN APPLE Age Defy Moisturizer by Juice Beauty
This by far is my go-to moisturizer. It seems very thick, but doesn’t feel that way going on. Putting it on after the shower is just amazing, it soaks in immediately. When you first apply it, it may seem very white on your face like a sunscreen. That quickly goes away though and man… my skin feels amazing. Not too heavy, just perfect.
Time Freeze Sleeping Mask by Laneige
I picked this up in Seoul last year on vacation on a whim, and I’m so glad I did! I don’t use this daily, but maybe once a week or so when I really want my skin to look amazing the next day. This overnight mask instantly makes my skin look less tired the next morning and let’s face it… these days I’m tired 24/7. A game changer!
Shiseido MOILIP N 8g Medicated Lip Cream
This was another vacation purchase in Tokyo last year. I had terrible chapped lips and bought this in desperation. THIS STUFF WORKS. I love drug store Shiseido so much for it’s ability and performance. Of course, my lips have been chapped and dry since my second trimester and it seems like no matter how much water I drink they still stay chapped! I regularly apply this and I have chapped lips no more.
BIENFAIT UV SPF 50+ Super Fluid Facial Sunscreen by Lancome
I’m already terrible about wearing sunscreen. When I do, I typically reach for aerosol spray sunscreens because they are easy to apply. Since I’m pregnant I was really concerned about inhaling the spray while applying so I abandoned that route. I’m so lazy to rub in sunscreen. HOWEVER. This fluid facial sunscreen from Lancome is liquidy and so easy to apply, as if you are applying a serum to your face. I absolutely love it and it has made applying sunscreen to my face a breeze.
Pregnant life has had it’s challenges (especially for my skin), but I’m grateful for all of it. Just a few more weeks until little Hannah is with us finally! Did you have skin issues when you were pregnant? What did you do or use that seemed to help?
