Traveling totally ruins my healthy eating plans! The desserts here are so delicious looking, and I couldn’t resist. I have to practically avoid the baking and dessert section in all of the stores now, haha. A few days a week I still indulge. I’ve been trying to limit my sweets because they usually pack a lot of calories and sugar in general is not good for you at all.
I was initially really worried about all of the sweets I was eating, but a few things eased my mind. Desserts here are a very small portion size compared to American sizes. The Japanese taste isn’t the same as the sickly sweet taste that Americans are used to, so almost all of the desserts here have less sugar and less calories because of this. With such low calorie counts, I don’t feel bad indulging every once in awhile!
This week, I tried a new ice cream from Glico called Panapp Green Tea and Black Honey. I really like green tea flavored desserts, so I am definitely in the right country! This ice cream has black honey and white chocolate sandwiched between layers of green tea ice cream. It cost ¥88 or roughly $1.09USD. Pretty cheap!
The whole container is 238 calories. Not bad! Green tea desserts typically have a little more sugar due to the green tea which can be a bit bitter. Even with the sugar, this ice cream still had a pretty distinct green tea flavor. It isn’t for people who don’t really care for the true flavor of green tea!
I couldn’t finish the whole thing. The green tea ice cream was on point, and the crunchy white chocolate gave it a nice texture. The black honey was a miss for me personally… it had a strange taste. It is not bad, just not to my taste.
Would I eat it again? Probably not! The taste of the black honey wasn’t a favorite for me. I’ll stay on the lookout for another green tea ice cream. 😉
