Hiroshima is a beautiful city for more reasons than one! Not only did this city manage to rise up after being almost completely destroyed in World War ll, but the city actually flourished. Hard to believe that it used to be rubble when you are surrounded by beautiful trees and gardens.
Check out some of the reasons why I think Hiroshima is totally worth the walk around. It’s not just because the JR Station has a curry soft boiled egg donut that could give any bakery a run for it’s money! 😉
The A Dome Building and the Hiroshima Peace Museum are the main attractions in the city, but there is so much more to see. There are several huge outdoor malls to explore. Hondori street is a particularly long shopping street with literally anything you could ever want.
I felt like all I did was eat here. When I was in the Hondori shopping street, I found a cute little donut shop called Floresta Nature Donut. I picked up a green tea donut to satisfy my sweet tooth. They even had a donut with two almonds for ears to make a cute little bear!
There was also a coffee shop that I grabbed a chocolate croissant in nearby the peace park that was out of this world! Too bad I can’t remember the name.
Hiroshima is actually the second city that I visited in Japan. After staying in Okayama for a few months, I forced myself to travel a little. Saving money is one thing, but missing the opportunity to explore a little more of Japan while I have the chance is crazy!
I guess I got used to my slow life living in a smaller city, because I felt a little bit of culture shock when I got to Hiroshima. It’s such a huge city! I loved it though. Every street was bustling with people and every alley had something new and exciting. Hiroshima even has a small island named Miyajima just a short train ride away. I had the chance to visit that island shortly after this trip and it was unforgettable.
This Sunday, I’ll be heading back to Japan for vacation. I’m really excited to return to some familiar places as well as some new ones now that I’m not on a super strict budget. I can’t wait to share my adventures with everyone!
