Glamorous Penguin Loungin’

Korea’s cafes are addicting. I’ve never been much of a coffee drinker, but after coming here it is hard to go even a few days without coffee! I’m such a sucker for packaging, so whenever I see a cute or unique cafe I can’t resist checking it out. There are just too many here that I don’t think I could ever finish all of them. My list is neverending. Slowly, slowly… I became addicted!

Obviously I couldn’t pass up a cafe with a name like Glamorous Penguin. I saw that it had a high rating on Foursquare so I had it saved for a few months on my to-do list. It’s in Hannam-dong but hidden on a backstreet so it isn’t very easy to find. If I hadn’t seen it on Foursquare I probably would have never seen or heard of it! Although it is a little difficult to find, it’s very quiet since the location is a little secluded.

Apparently this place is pretty famous for having delicious cakes. The inside is very simple and clean and we were lucky to grab a seat on the roof to enjoy the beautiful weather. I thought the prices were a little high but the cakes looked fantastic! We came all the way there so we decided to share a slice of cake and drink to make it a little bit more affordable. 🙂

Since I’ve been on an ade binge lately, I skipped the coffee this time around and ordered a raspberry ade. Seriously, I’m all about the ade lately. I even bought some Perrier so that I could make some of my own at home! I thought it was really small for what I paid, but they had real raspberries at the bottom of the cup and the taste definitely didn’t disappoint me at all.

Glamorous Penguin Lemon Meringue Cake Glamorous Penguin Ade
There were a lot of cakes but we had to try the lemon meringue. You don’t see it that often in Korea and it. looked. amazing. This was legit cake… moist, citrusy and just plain delicious. I love me some sweets and Korea has been a little disappointing in that category honestly. Definitely an A+ for that perfect citrus flavor and fluffy meringue. I’m making myself hungry remembering it!

Pricy, but delicious. It seems to be the theme here in Korea for the most part.

To get to Glamorous Penguin, take the subway to Hangangjin Station and go out of exit 3. Cross the street and turn down the side street with Trevia and the Audi dealership.Go straight and veer to the left. Glamorous Penguin will be right there.

Q: What is your favorite cafe?
