Whew. Has it really been almost 4 months since I blogged a fitness update? Well… I have to admit that I fell off of the wagon a few times. More than a few times. 🙁 Weight loss is like that with me. I start up, get really excited and then end up caving in. And with caving in comes the guilt… I know one meal won’t ruin my whole life but I feel like it does sometimes! It already feels horrible to overeat, but the guilt afterwards is so hard to get past sometimes.
Thankfully I’ve come to peace with all of that though! It’s taken me four months to do it, but I am solidly on the healthy eating and get that booty moving path. I think I read somewhere that it takes 26 days to make a habit and I agree it! I go to the gym so much easier now because I’ve been consistently doing it for two months. It almost feels wrong NOT to go to the gym. Some of the excuses I used to make to myself seem so insane now. I’m being much more honest with myself and definitely seeing the results of that. Yay! 🙂
It’s definitely been the struggle though. Just yesterday, I finally weight myself and came in UNDER 200 pounds. And it felt amazing! It’s only a 16 pound weight loss but being out of the 200s has been so encouraging. And I know I could have lost more by now, but I did keep going. And I did lose! That is all that matters. Of course, I’m not done yet. 😉
Last month is when I really started to take this change seriously. I stopped eating out. I cooked at home and tried to include as many vegetables as I could in my diet. I cut almost all processed carbs (with the exception of a few splurges here and there), removed sugar and enrolled in group exercise classes. Man, what a change! I upped it even further by forcing myself to get my eight hours of sleep in each night no matter what. In general, I was just on de-stress mode. My mood and health has really seen a lot of changes… I have so much more energy now. I plan ahead so I won’t get stressed out from forgetting about something. I’m not over-scheduling my life and I’m taking time to relax and do things that I like. My job is just so hectic, so without that safe space at home I can’t relax or enjoy anything.
And the best part about home? My cat, Iskander. I don’t know what I would do without him. Every day when I come home he is there at the door waiting for me. A lot of times he’ll be snoozing upstairs on my bed too, too lazy to come to the door. 😉 If that’s the case there is a ninety percent probability I’ll join him for a snooze myself. Pets come with their own hassles but I wouldn’t give him up for the world. It’s so relaxing to just lay there and pet him… I’ve fallen asleep without meaning to several times! Fluffy cat + comfortable bed? I mean, what would you do? 😀
Along with my new-found healthy life I worry about Iskander too. He’s not a kitten anymore and it’s actually hard to believe he was ever small enough to fit in the palm of my hand. He’s now more like a baby that I can cradle in my arms. He’s very friendly and loving so he allows me to do that to him all of the time thankfully. I think since I always picked him up and cradled him as a kitten he’s used to it and doesn’t mind. Since I got him in Seoul while I was living there, he had lots of attention from my foreigner friends who missed their cats back home but didn’t want to buy one there. He was more popular than I am haha! That’s cool though. I don’t mind if my cat outshines me. He is super adorable. Which I remind him of daily. Ask my husband what is the one phrase I say to the cat the most and he’ll say without skipping a beat it’s “You’re so cute.” 🙂
Since I love him so much I want to keep him healthy too. I’m paying more attention to what he eats and I try to go outside with him when I can because he’s so curious and loves to explore. My husband even caught him trying to slip out the door a few days ago when he was going to work! For being an indoor cat his whole life, he sure isn’t afraid of anything outdoors. He’s so big now, and at his last veterinarian visit she said he was a little overweight. It made me kind of sad because he’s always been a very slender cat. Since then I’ve been watching his eating and making sure I give him good choices. He’s not a picky cat, but some of the “healthy” blends for cats must not have tasted that good because he wouldn’t eat them, or would eat very little. And he loves soft food! One of the brands we don’t have that problem with is Purina Muse, which is exclusively sold at PetSmart. They actually have a clean plate guarantee which I thought was encouraging. Their slogan is “Natural has never been so delicious. Put Muse to the test with our clean plate guarantee.” Put it to the test we did!
He LOVES this stuff. With Muse you don’t have to choose between natural nutrition and food that tastes great. Your cat can have both when you choose Muse. If I won’t put bad stuff in my body, I don’t want to do that to my cat either! There are lots of recipes to choose from, and their wet food comes in chowders, broths, pates, and in gravy. There are no artificial colors or preservatives and the recipes use real fish and chicken. Many of them are even grain free.
I like that me and my cat can be healthy together. Because I want him to stay with me as long as possible. I think anyone with a furry friend can relate to that. 🙂
Q: Any fitness tips you can give me? Any encouragement is appreciated! 🙂
