Dates. An under-appreciated fruit in my opinion. I love them myself, but I only tend to eat them during Ramadan. They are definitely the most popular option for breaking fast at the end of the day. And why wouldn’t they be? They are loaded with potassium, magnesium and dietary fiber. But somehow I forget about them after Ramadan ends and I revert back to the usual fruits like bananas, oranges and apricots. Seriously a shame.
Dates are so easy to digest that my stomach that has been fasting accepts my meal easily. A sweets loving girl like me is the perfect match for super sweet dates.
While I was eating my date to break my fast last week, I started thinking about other ways to incorporate dates into my meals. With all of their health benefits I should eat them year round! Somehow I got my mind set on a date milkshake and I couldn’t shake off the idea… it sounded way too delicious.
Milkshakes are a huge treat for me, and I love them in any form! So I whipped together this super easy date milkshake and wow… was it good. Seriously. You gotta try this one for yourself! The medjool dates are so soft and juicy that no additional sweetener is needed. You could use date syrup if you wanted to, but I think fresh, ripe dates taste so much better!
This Ramadan inspired recipe is sure to rock your socks off whether you are fasting or not! Perfect for beginning your fast, breaking your fast, or a just-because sweet treat that packs a big punch of nutrition!
1/2 cup medjool dates, pitted and chopped
1 cup of whole milk
1 cup of vanilla ice cream
Remove the pit and roughly chop dates. Add the milk to a blender and blend it with the chopped dates until it mixes very well. Add in the ice cream and blend. Serve!
