Alright guys, it’s officially one month into the new year! I don’t know about you, but I’m already starting to feel the grind. 🙁 I’m still chugging along with my resolutions for the year but I’m starting to feel the drag of everything I have to accomplish.
I decided that I needed some simplifying in my life. I got a really good start using the KonMari method for all of the clutter in my house. I spent almost two weeks going through every single thing in my house and discarding or donating things. It felt so refreshing! It got me really thinking about other ways that I can simplify my life to make things easier on myself.
The book really got me thinking… why do I do the things I do and are they useful? Do they help me accomplish my goals? Do they make me happy? What changes do I need to make for me to accomplish the things I want?
Yeah, I know… big thinking. I almost feel like I went through a transformation of sorts in the beginning of the year. But it felt good! I feel like I have a really good handle on my life. Nothing is out of place, and I have no excuses.
When I was having these big thoughts, one of the things that came up was breakfast. I always say that I want to eat a nutritious breakfast every morning, but to be honest I usually don’t. This goal of mine was definitely all words and no action. I said I was trying but I wasn’t. It’s such an old goal for me and it never gets accomplished! So this time around, I’m really going for it and making sure that I’m successful at getting my breakfast in every day!
One of the ways I’m doing that is just admitting to myself that I need a quick fix for breakfasts on weekdays because I just don’t have time in the mornings to make much. I like to take my time waking up, and I hate rushing around trying to make something to eat in the mornings. When I’m not rushing, I feel fresh for a new day. It’s nice to wake up and have time to check your email for a few minutes and I’ve even been getting a quick work out in before work! I have to go in pretty early in the morning, so bumping up my wake-up time is just not an option for me. Having breakfast ready for my quickly helps me avoid that rush to get ready in the mornings. I don’t know about you, but when I wake up in a rush my whole day feels off!
I splurged for Christmas and finally got myself a BlendTec blender that I’ve been eyeing for a few years and I’ve been going smoothie crazy. They are really easy to make and they usually don’t need much prep. Perfect for me! My favorite is this chocolate peanut butter banana smoothie. I used to make it all the time when I was a freshman in college… but somehow forgot all about it! It’s so delicious though, and I used to drink it all week for breakfast without getting tired of it. 😀
The chocolate makes it seem like a dessert, but it’s actually full of nutrition because of the Carnation Breakfast Essentials® powder. It has lots of protein, vitamins and minerals so it keeps me full until lunch. It’s just what I need because I literally don’t have a minute to spare during the day in the classroom. Some days I barely have time to eat my lunch!
Carnation Breakfast Essentials® rich milk chocolate powder is really great in this smoothie. The company is a big supporter of having a nutritious breakfast every morning and are encouraging all to take the 7 day breakfast challenge! I’m taking the challenge by getting my breakfast in each morning with yummy smoothies.
And on days when even making these quick smoothies are too much work, I grab one of their Ready-to-Drink Bottles from Kroger so that I never miss my breakfast. 🙂 No shame for snoozing my alarm one too many times! You can enter simple missions through the sweepstakes to win prizes. I’ve got my eye on the GoPro myself! 😉
