Even though the official first day of summer isn’t until tomorrow, these last few weeks have made me feel like summer is already here! It is hot and humid here in Indiana and the summer sun is in full force. It was 94° outside today and it had me craving a cold treat. I resisted the urge to stop at my local ice cream shop on the way home and opted to make a delicious smoothie at home. 🙂
Yay for avoiding temptation and taking the healthier path! This smoothie was so easy to make and it literally takes you a few minutes to complete. It is a very healthy treat that hits the spot on a hot day. With around 128 calories per serving, you can feel good about this smoothie packed with Vitamins C, K, B6, and D, Riboflavin, Potassium, Maganese, and Dietery Fiber from the fruits and milk. I used whole milk in my smoothie, but using a milk lower in fat would make this an even lower calorie treat!
It is crazy how little calories is in something so delicious. Definitely better than ice cream packed with sugar and preservatives. I sometimes forget how delicious fresh fruit is for getting my sugar fix. I had bought a few bags of frozen fruit while they were on sale ages ago to make smoothies with and totally forgot about them. Oh, how I was missing out!
You can add a few tablespoons of sugar to this, but I didn’t. I think the fruit adds enough sugar of it’s own and makes it plenty sweet. If you do add sugar, make sure to use confectioner’s sugar so your smoothie doesn’t have a gritty texture!
And there they are, two servings of pure yummyness. The banana gave a nice thick texture and the frozen blueberries and cherries made it into a thick and icy drink. If you prefer fresh fruit, you can use it and add a few ice cubes for that icy texture. Of course, smoothies are so versatile so swap out any of the fruit; the sky is the limit!
