Casablanca in HBC

3 Flares 3 Flares ×

Living in Seoul, no matter how exciting, can still come with some homesickness. I was really lucky because I lived in Haebangchon, a predominantly foreign area filled with tons of good restaurants that I could go to when I needed that back home taste. It actually ended up being a bad thing as well… I leaned on it a bit too often and foreign restaurants are expensive. But when I did really crave something… it was only a short walk away. 🙂

Most foreign restaurants are expensive… but there are a few gems that don’t break the budget! My absolute favorite is Casablanca… a Moroccan inspired sandwich place right in the heart of HBC. I’m a huge fan of their vegetarian sandwich but their chicken sandwich is equally as good. If you are looking for spicy, they also have a mean spicy shrimp sandwich!

The sandwich has some kind of garlic mayonnaise with a type of pickled carrot mix and that stuff is like crack. The veggie is made with fried potatoes and it’s like another type of crack. They serve their sandwiches on Turkish bread from the Salam Bakery in Itaewon. The bread is like crack, the filling is like crack… what’s not to love?

The only downside to this place is that it can get crowded really quickly and when they are sold out, they close down shop! They never seem to be open until their actual closing time because their sandwiches sell out so fast. 🙁 They also only take cash, but that’s a small price to pay for good eats.

Seriously, get down to Casablanca if you are in Haebangchon. You won’t regret it. 😉

How to Get to Casablanca:
Take Line 6 (brown line) on the subway to Noksapyeong Station and go out of exit 2. Walk straight until you reach the intersection. Turn left at the intersection and follow the kimchi pots. Keep walking on this road for a few minutes and you will find Casablanca on your left.

ETA: Prices have went up 1,000 won since this post. I guess they got featured on a Korean news channel and they upped prices after a huge swarm of new business from the show. Boo, but still cheap eats!

  • The food must be so delicious if they can sell out like that. If I had a restaurant, I would hope that people clamour for my food like that.
